‘Been A Minute’ By Young T and Bugsey Review

Young T and Bugsey are back! The Hip Hop duo from Nottingham made a re-entrance, at the end of March, with their single ‘Been A Minute’. The song is a contrast to their previous music, with a relaxed beat and authentic rap lyrics. They have previously described their style as ‘melodic rap’ which is evident in their hit songs ‘Don’t Rush’ and ‘Strike A Pose’. Although a few of their tracks have sky-rocketed, they definitely are not considered ‘one hit wonders’, and continue to reject this label, releasing fantastic music.

This song, however, is different to any of the music I have heard from them, in entirely the best way. The song has no melody, yet still sustains an original and easy-going flow, feeling more raw and genuine, showcasing Young t and Bugsey’s lyrical skills, on each of their verses. We hear each of them dive into a more personal level, as they rap about their family, being a father and their heritage. For me, I would have to say this new revision of their style, is intriguing and this song is possibly my favourite in their discography. The video reflects this shift in style, featuring both of their kids and simple shots of them rapping to the camera, both individually and together.

The song offers a new and refreshing idea into this new era of Young T and Bugsey. Give it a listen now!
